Julie Doiron

Julie Doiron is a Canadian singer-songwriter and bassist from Moncton, New Brunswick, who first emerged in the early 1990s as a co-founder of the lo-fi indie rock band Eric's Trip. After that group split in the mid-1990s, she began releasing solo material, initially under the name Broken Girl before switching to her own name, building a body of intimate, hushed folk-rock songs built around plainspoken lyrics and understated guitar work.

Her solo career has been prolific and well-regarded within Canadian indie circles, earning a Juno Award for the collaborative album she recorded with the Ontario band the Wooden Stars. She has also run her own label, Sappy Records, supporting other artists from the Maritimes. Her sound blends confessional, diary-like songwriting with a raw, unpolished production aesthetic inherited from her Eric's Trip years.

Over three decades she has continued to release new albums and has been recognized by institutions like the Polaris Music Prize longlist, while older tracks such as her debut solo record have found new audiences through social media. She remains an influential figure in the Canadian indie and lo-fi scenes, respected for her consistency and emotional directness.
