Journey

Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by musicians who had previously played with Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. After experimenting with a more progressive, instrumental sound in its earliest years, the band shifted toward radio-friendly arena rock once vocalist Steve Perry joined in 1977, a change that defined its most successful era through the late 1970s and 1980s.

With Perry fronting the group, Journey became one of the defining acts of American arena rock, known for soaring vocal melodies, polished guitar work, and anthemic choruses built for stadium crowds. The band's songwriting balanced power ballads with driving rock numbers, a formula that translated into some of the era's most enduring singles, including «Don’t Stop Believin’», «Open Arms», and «Faithfully».

The 1981 album Escape marked the commercial peak of this lineup, topping the charts and cementing Journey's place alongside bands like Foreigner and REO Speedwagon in the arena-rock landscape. Its influence has persisted for decades, with «Don’t Stop Believin’» becoming one of the most recognizable rock anthems of all time. The band continued through multiple lineup changes in the following decades, with later singers stepping in to carry on its legacy on record and on tour.
