About the artist
John Bush is an American rock vocalist best known as the frontman of Bay Area heavy metal band Armored Saint and, later, as the lead singer of thrash metal pioneers Anthrax from the early 1990s through the mid-2000s. His voice combines a powerful, melodic hard-rock delivery with the aggression needed for thrash, giving him a distinctive middle ground between traditional metal singing and the more shouted, riff-driven style of his genre.
With Anthrax, Bush fronted the band during a transitional and often underappreciated era, recording albums that leaned into a heavier, more groove-oriented and alternative-metal-influenced sound compared to the band's earlier thrash output. His tenure produced songs that showcased his ability to deliver both anthemic hooks and intense, driving vocal lines, helping the band navigate the shifting metal landscape of the 1990s.
Bush has also lent his voice to associated projects and soundtrack work, including material tied to the Twisted Metal video game franchise, and has continued to front Armored Saint intermittently, an act with which he first built his reputation in the early-to-mid 1980s. Across his body of work, he is regarded within the metal community as a versatile and technically skilled vocalist who successfully bridged classic heavy metal songwriting with thrash and alternative metal sensibilities.
