Joe Hawley

Joe Hawley is an American musician best known as the red-tied member of the indie/quirk-rock band Tally Hall, which formed in Michigan and went on indefinite hiatus in late 2011. Within the band he was a key songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, contributing to Tally Hall's distinctive blend of pop hooks, offbeat humor and eclectic instrumentation.

After the group's hiatus, Hawley pursued a more experimental solo path, releasing material under his own name as well as the alias ミラクルミュージカル (Miracle Musical), through which he explored denser, more conceptual and psychedelic-leaning material than his Tally Hall work. His solo and Miracle Musical output spans a wide stylistic range touching rock, pop, rap and R&B influences, reflected in songs like «Crazy Food», «Bring Her Along», «Rotary Park» and «Bahamian Rap City».

Hawley's work is marked by playful, often absurdist songwriting, unconventional song structures and a willingness to blend genres freely, traits already visible in Tally Hall and pushed further in his solo output, including tracks such as «Weird Bed &/or Yes Please» and «Black People White People». He remains a cult favorite among fans of idiosyncratic, internet-era indie music.
