Joan Jett

Joan Jett is an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter, often called the «Queen of Rock 'n' Roll» and the «Godmother of Punk.» She first rose to prominence as a founding member and guitarist of the all-female rock band The Runaways in the mid-1970s, helping open the door for women in hard rock at a time when the genre was almost entirely male-dominated. After the band split in 1979, Jett struck out on her own, co-founding Blackheart Records — one of the first artist-owned independent labels — to release her debut solo material after being turned down by major labels.

Her sound fuses raw, riff-driven garage rock with punk energy and glam-rock swagger, delivered in a distinctive, gritty vocal style. Working with songs like «Bad Reputation» and «Dirty Deeds», she built a reputation as a defiant, unapologetic rock performer whose image and attitude became inseparable from her music. Her collaborations with producer and songwriting partner Kenny Laguna were central to shaping her career and sound throughout the 1980s and beyond.

Joan Jett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her band the Blackhearts in 2015. Beyond her chart success, she is widely regarded as a feminist icon in rock music, having inspired generations of women to pick up guitars and form bands, cementing her legacy as one of the genre's most influential and enduring figures.
