Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World is an American rock band formed in Mesa, Arizona, in 1993, consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins, guitarist and backing vocalist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch and drummer Zach Lind. The band emerged from the American underground and emo scenes of the 1990s, and their second album, Clarity (1999), though largely overlooked on release, has since grown into a landmark of the third-wave emo era and a major influence on later generations of rock bands.

The band's commercial breakthrough came with Bleed American (2001), which spawned several hit singles on modern rock radio, including «The Middle», which topped the chart, alongside tracks like «Sweetness» and «A Praise Chorus». The darker, more atmospheric follow-up Futures (2004) continued their success with the number-one modern rock hit «Pain». Both albums achieved significant commercial certification, cementing Jimmy Eat World as one of the defining rock bands to cross over from emo roots into mainstream alternative radio.

Known for combining melodic, hook-driven songwriting with emotionally direct lyrics and a dynamic blend of loud and soft guitar textures, the band has continued to record and tour with its longtime lineup, releasing albums such as Chase This Light (2007) and several more since, maintaining a consistent presence in American rock music for decades.
