About the artist
Jets to Brazil were an American emo/indie rock band active from 1997 to 2003, formed by singer-guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach following the breakup of his influential 1990s band Jawbreaker. The lineup included drummer Chris Daly (of Texas Is the Reason), bassist Jeremy Chatelain (of Handsome), and later guitarist Brian Maryansky, making the group something of an emo supergroup drawing members from several respected late-90s bands.
Musically, Jets to Brazil moved away from Jawbreaker's raw punk energy toward a more expansive, melodic, and introspective sound, incorporating slower tempos, richer arrangements, and Schwarzenbach's literate, emotionally direct songwriting. Songs like «Sweet Avenue», «Sea Anemone», and «Crown of the Valley» showcase the band's blend of indie rock texture with emo's confessional lyricism, while tracks such as «Chinatown» and «I Typed for Miles» reflect their range across moods and tempos.
The band released three studio albums during its run before disbanding in the early 2000s, and remains a touchstone act for fans tracing the lineage from 90s emo and punk into the more melodic, indie-inflected emo sound of the following decade. Schwarzenbach's songwriting across Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil continues to influence subsequent generations of emo and indie rock musicians.
