Jefferson Airplane

Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965, widely regarded as one of the most important and influential groups of the psychedelic rock era. As the first act from the city's countercultural scene to achieve international success, the band helped define the sound and spirit of the late-1960s San Francisco music movement and performed at landmark festivals including Monterey Pop, Woodstock, Altamont, and the Isle of Wight.

The group's early work, exemplified by their debut «Jefferson Airplane Takes Off», combined rock with folk influences, but by the release of «After Bathing at Baxter's» in late 1967 they had developed a denser, more experimental psychedelic sound. Their commercial and cultural peak came with the album «Surrealistic Pillow», which produced two of the era's defining singles, «White Rabbit» and «Somebody to Love», both later included in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

The band's catalog also includes politically charged and expansive tracks such as «Volunteers», «We Can Be Together», and the multi-part «Plastic Fantastic Lover», alongside softer, more introspective material like «Today» and «Comin' Back to Me». Known for tight vocal interplay, layered instrumentation, and a willingness to fuse folk-rock songcraft with psychedelic experimentation, Jefferson Airplane remains a touchstone act for understanding the musical and cultural upheaval of the 1960s counterculture.
