Jawbreaker

Jawbreaker are a punk rock band formed in 1986 by then NYU students Blake Schwarzenbach, Chris Bauermeister and Adam Pfahler. After university the trio relocated to Los Angeles, their home state of California, where they recorded and released their debut album «Unfun» in 1990, before moving to San Francisco the following year. Their second album, «Bivouac», followed in 1992.

Schwarzenbach's deeply personal, confessional lyrics — drawn straight from his own life — became the band's defining trait, and Jawbreaker are frequently cited as one of the most influential groups of the 1990s emo scene, bridging raw hardcore-punk energy with introspective songwriting. They toured and recorded steadily until 1996, releasing four studio albums in total, including fan favorites built around songs like «Boxcar», «Chesterfield King» and «Kiss the Bottle».

In 2007 the band began work with director Tim Irwin (of the Minutemen documentary «We Jam Econo») on a documentary that would eventually become «Don't Break Down», released in 2017. That same summer Jawbreaker reunited to play live again, headlining Riot Fest in Chicago. In March 2018 they announced work on a fifth studio album.
