About the artist
JANK was an American rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 2015 by guitarist and vocalist Matt Diamond alongside Ruben Polo and Sam Becht, following the end of Diamond's earlier project Panucci's Pizza. The trio built a small but devoted following in the American emo and math-rock scene, mixing jagged, unpredictable guitar work with punk energy and off-kilter pop hooks, a style they themselves jokingly labeled awkward pop.
Their catalog is compact but distinctive: the debut Awkward Pop Songs (2015) introduced their sound, the companion release Awkward Chopped Songs (2016) reworked earlier material, and Versace Summer (2016) stands as their fullest artistic statement, featuring tracks like «Caitlyn» and «Alligator» alongside the title song. Songs such as «J A N K» and «Ouran Highschool Toast Club» reflect the band's playful, internet-savvy sense of humor layered over genuinely intricate musicianship.
By late 2016 the band had effectively gone quiet, with touring dates disappearing and Polo departing shortly after. No formal breakup was ever announced, leaving JANK as one of the era's more mysterious disappearances from the emo revival scene — a band whose small discography still circulates among fans of the genre's more experimental, tightly wound side.
