Jane's Addiction

Jane's Addiction is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1985, widely credited as one of the pioneering acts of alternative rock and a bridge between 1980s hard rock and the grunge and alt-rock explosion of the early 1990s. Fronted by the theatrical Perry Farrell, with Dave Navarro's fluid, textured guitar work, Eric Avery's melodic basslines and Stephen Perkins' propulsive drumming, the band forged a sound that mixed punk aggression, art-rock ambition and psychedelic sprawl.

Their albums Nothing's Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo Habitual (1990) are considered landmark records that expanded what rock music could sound and look like, pairing provocative artwork with sprawling, dynamic songwriting on tracks like «Jane Says», «Been Caught Stealing» and «Three Days». Perry Farrell went on to found Lollapalooza, the touring festival that helped define the alternative music scene of the era and gave Jane's Addiction itself a launching pad.

After splitting in 1991, the band has reunited multiple times over the following decades, with various lineup configurations including bassist Chris Chaney, continuing to tour and record while their early catalog remains a touchstone for the alternative and hard rock genres.
