Jal

Jal is a Pakistani pop-rock band formed in Karachi in the early 2000s, part of the wave of South Asian bands that brought guitar-driven rock into the mainstream pop charts of Pakistan and India. The group built its reputation on melodic, emotionally direct songwriting, with tracks like «Aadat» becoming one of the defining pop-rock anthems of the region, later reinterpreted in Bollywood. Their sound blends soft rock instrumentation with Urdu/Hindi lyrics steeped in themes of love and longing.

Beyond «Aadat», the band built a catalogue including «Sajni», «Chup Chup», «Woh Lamhe» and «Bikhra Hoon Main», mixing acoustic ballads with more upbeat rock numbers. Jal became known for extensive touring across the subcontinent and among diaspora audiences, cementing a reputation as one of the most consistent live acts to come out of Pakistan's early-2000s rock scene.

The band's lineup has changed over the years, with vocalist and songwriting duties central to its identity shifting between members at different points in its history. Despite these changes, Jal remains closely associated with the golden era of Pakistani pop-rock alongside contemporaries like Strings and Noori, and its early singles continue to be streamed and covered widely.
