Jackson Browne

Jackson Browne is an American singer-songwriter born on October 9, 1948, in Heidelberg, Germany, where his father was stationed as an American serviceman; he grew up in California. Emerging from the Los Angeles singer-songwriter scene in the early 1970s, he was closely associated with the Laurel Canyon and Southern California folk-rock circle alongside artists like the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, and briefly played with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band before launching his solo career.

His self-titled debut album in 1972 introduced his reflective, literate songwriting style, built around plainspoken lyrics and a warm blend of folk and soft rock. He became known for introspective ballads such as «These Days», «Doctor My Eyes», and «Late for the Sky», as well as the wry, self-aware «Running on Empty», a live-recorded album chronicling life on tour. «The Pretender» remains one of his most acclaimed works, examining the compromises of adult life with unusual candor.
