Jack's Mannequin

Jack's Mannequin was the solo project of Andrew McMahon, launched in 2004 after he stepped away from his other band, Something Corporate, exhausted from constant touring and eager to explore songs that did not fit that group's dynamic. The name comes from McMahon's song «Dear Jack», later featured on an EP tied to a documentary about his battle with leukemia, a diagnosis he received only after finishing the debut album Everything in Transit.

Musically, Jack's Mannequin built on piano-driven pop-rock, layering McMahon's melodic, confessional songwriting over energetic rock arrangements rather than the punchier pop-punk edge of Something Corporate. Signature tracks like «Dark Blue», «The Mixed Tape» and «La La Lie» showcase this blend of emotional directness and anthemic hooks, while «Swim» and «Holiday from Real» reflect on resilience and recovery following his illness.

The project released several albums through the 2000s before McMahon retired the Jack's Mannequin name around 2012 to record under his own name. Despite a relatively short active period, the band left a lasting mark on mid-2000s piano rock and remains closely tied to McMahon's personal story of illness and survival.
