J. Karjalainen & Mustat Lasit

J. Karjalainen & Mustat Lasit was a Finnish rock band formed in the early 1980s around singer-songwriter Jukka Karjalainen. The group quickly became one of the most beloved acts in Finnish rock, mixing heartfelt, melodic songwriting with a warm, roots-influenced rock sound that connected deeply with Finnish audiences of the era.

Their breakthrough came with the 1982 hit «Ankkurinappi», which was followed by a string of enduring favorites including «Doris», «Hän», «Oi mikä ihana ilta», «Sankarit», «Kolme cowboyta», «Apinaorkesteri» and «Sekaisin». The 1985 album Doris, and its title track in particular, cemented the band's place among the most memorable groups in Finnish popular music history.

The band's recording career as Mustat Lasit came to a close with the 1988 album Lumipallo, followed by a live album in 1989. After the group disbanded, Jukka Karjalainen continued his musical career under his own name with a rotating stage band, later scoring further success with the 1992 album Tähtilampun alla. His songwriting, rooted in storytelling and Finnish rock tradition with touches of American folk and country influence, left a lasting mark on the country's music scene.
