Indochine

Indochine is a French pop-rock band formed in 1981 in Paris, originally by Nicola Sirkis and Dominique Nicolas, emerging out of the new wave movement of the era. Over more than four decades and numerous lineup changes — including Nicola's late twin brother Stéphane Sirkis, who was a key member for years — the band built one of the most enduring careers in French rock, led throughout by singer and songwriter Nicola Sirkis.

Their sound blends new wave and synth-driven pop with rock guitars, evolving over the decades while retaining Sirkis's distinctive, melancholic vocal delivery. Songs such as «L'Aventurier», «Trois nuits par semaine» and «J'ai demandé à la lune» became generational hits in France, while later tracks like «College Boy» showed the band engaging with more contemporary, socially charged themes.

Indochine remain one of the best-selling and most influential French-language rock acts, credited with sustaining a mainstream rock presence in French pop culture across multiple generations of fans, from their 1980s new wave breakthrough to their continued relevance in the 2000s and beyond.
