Ike & Tina Turner

Ike & Tina Turner were an American husband-and-wife musical duo who became one of the defining acts of R&B, soul and rock and roll from the late 1950s through the early 1970s. Ike Turner, already a pioneering figure in the birth of rock and roll through his earlier band work, paired with the powerhouse vocalist Tina Turner to form the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, a touring show built around Tina's raw, electrifying voice and stage presence and backed by the dancers and singers known as The Ikettes.

The duo broke through commercially with early singles like «A Fool in Love» and «It's Gonna Work Out Fine», establishing a sound that fused gospel-rooted vocal intensity with driving R&B rhythm. Their explosive live shows made them one of the most sought-after touring acts of their era, crossing over to white audiences at a time when racial barriers still shaped much of the American music industry.

Their catalog includes the Phil Spector-produced «River Deep – Mountain High», a Wall of Sound landmark, and later hits such as «Proud Mary» and «Nutbush City Limits», which showcased Tina's transformation into a rock icon. The duo's partnership ended in the mid-1970s, after which Tina Turner went on to a massive solo career, but the Ike & Tina Turner Revue remains a foundational chapter in American popular music.
