Iggy Pop

Iggy Pop, born James Newell Osterberg Jr. in Muskegon, Michigan, first made his mark as the frontman of The Stooges, a proto-punk band whose raw, confrontational sound in the late 1960s and early 1970s laid groundwork for punk rock. His wild stage presence, including stage-diving and self-harm during performances, became legendary and cemented his reputation as one of rock’s most uncompromising performers.

After The Stooges disbanded, Iggy Pop struggled to launch a solo career until he relocated to Berlin and began collaborating with David Bowie. That partnership produced two pivotal albums, The Idiot and Lust for Life, which fused his raw energy with Bowie’s experimental production sensibilities and gave the world enduring tracks like «The Passenger», «Lust for Life» and «Candy». These records reestablished him as a major solo artist and expanded his sound beyond punk into art rock and post-punk textures.

Over a decades-long career, Iggy Pop has continued to influence generations of rock and alternative musicians, with songs such as «Real Wild Child (Wild One)», «Nightclubbing» and «Gardenia» remaining staples of his catalogue. Widely regarded as the «Godfather of Punk», he is celebrated both for his solo work and his foundational role with The Stooges.
