About the artist
Iceage are a Danish band formed in Copenhagen in 2008 by teenage friends Elias Bender Rønnenfelt (vocals), Johan Surrballe Wieth (guitar), Jakob Tvilling Pless (bass) and Dan Kjær Nielsen (drums). They emerged from Copenhagen's underground punk scene and drew immediate international attention with their raw, abrasive early records, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about bands in the post-punk and hardcore revival of the early 2010s.
Their sound has evolved dramatically across their discography, moving from the fast, chaotic hardcore punk of their debut toward a darker, more expansive post-punk and gothic rock sound, then further into a genre-blurring blend incorporating elements of Americana, chamber music, piano ballads and even a loose, rock-and-roll swagger. Albums such as «Plowing into the Field of Love» and «Beyondless» marked pivotal stylistic shifts, earning critical acclaim for their ambition and emotional intensity, with Rønnenfelt's slurred, theatrical baritone becoming a defining feature of the band's identity.
Iceage have been noted for their intense live performances and for refusing to stay confined to any single genre, influencing a generation of guitar bands while continuing to push their sound in unpredictable directions. They remain closely associated with the Copenhagen DIY scene from which they emerged, even as their music has grown increasingly ambitious and internationally acclaimed.
