Hunters & Collectors

Hunters & Collectors were an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in the early 1980s, fronted by singer Mark Seymour. They emerged from the same post-punk scene as bands like The Birthday Party before developing a bigger, horn-inflected pub-rock sound that became a defining feature of Australian rock through the 1980s and into the 1990s.

The band became one of Australia's most beloved live acts, known for the anthemic «Throw Your Arms Around Me», a song that has been widely covered by other Australian artists and remains a staple of the country's rock canon, as well as hits like «Holy Grail», which gained additional popularity through its use in AFL football coverage. Other notable tracks such as «Do You See What I See?» and «Back in the Hole» showcase the band's mix of muscular rock arrangements with soulful, emotionally direct songwriting.

Hunters & Collectors built a reputation on relentless touring and a strong connection with Australian pub-rock audiences, cementing their status as a cornerstone act of the era alongside contemporaries like Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil. Mark Seymour went on to a solo career after the band's breakup, but Hunters & Collectors' catalogue, including songs like «Tender Kinder Baby» and «Imaginary Girl», remains a touchstone of Australian rock identity.
