About the artist
HUNNY is an American band from Newbury Park, California, fronted by singer and guitarist Jason Yarger and rounded out by Jake Goldstein, bassist Kevin Grimmett and drummer Joey Anderson. Yarger has described the group's sound as self-coined «sadwave,» a mix of upbeat, jangly guitar pop with post-punk melancholy indebted to bands like The Cure, and lyrics that draw heavily on nostalgia, growing up, and the emotional turbulence of young relationships.
Several members had been making music together since childhood in Newbury Park before formally becoming HUNNY, and their debut single «Cry for Me» captured the band's signature combination of infectious hooks and bittersweet undertones. The band gained early momentum touring with long-time friends The Neighbourhood and Bad Suns on the #THEFLOOD2015 tour, aligning them with a wave of Southern California indie and alt-pop acts.
Their debut EP, Pain/Ache/Loving, released in 2015, established the template for HUNNY's sound that carried into later songs such as «Televised», «July», «Natalie», «La Belle Femme», «Parking Lot» and «Shy». Across their catalogue, HUNNY balances breezy, danceable guitar pop with lyrics that dwell on heartbreak and self-reflection, giving the band a distinct identity within the broader indie rock and pop landscape.
