About the artist
Hinder is an American rock band formed in 2001 in Oklahoma by drummer Cody Hanson and guitarist Joe Garvey, originally fronted by singer Austin Winkler. The band blends post-grunge, hard rock, and hints of southern rock into radio-friendly, hook-heavy anthems built around gritty guitar riffs and big, melodic choruses.
They broke through with their 2005 debut album Extreme Behavior, powered by the ballad «Lips of an Angel», which became a massive crossover hit on rock and pop radio alike. Follow-up releases such as Take It to the Limit and All American Nightmare cemented their reputation for hard-partying rock anthems mixed with power ballads, with tracks like «Better Than Me» and «Without You» becoming staples of mid-2000s rock radio.
After Winkler's departure, Marshall Dutton took over as lead vocalist, and the band continued recording and touring, including the album When the Smoke Clears. Hinder remains best known for its distinctive combination of raspy, emotive vocals and arena-ready rock hooks, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in recognition of its impact on the state's music scene.
