About the artist
Hellyeah is an American heavy metal supergroup formed in the mid-2000s, bringing together musicians from several established acts: Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray, guitarists Tom Maxwell (formerly of Nothingface) and Christian Brady, bassist Kyle Sanders, and drummer Roy Mayorga, who had played with Stone Sour and Soulfly. The band's origins trace back to conversations on the Tattoo the Earth tour years before the lineup finally came together to record.
The group's self-titled debut album was tracked quickly, reportedly in about a month, at a studio associated with Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, and it entered the Billboard 200 upon release. Musically, Hellyeah blends groove metal riffing inherited from its members' nu-metal and thrash backgrounds with Southern-rock swagger and hard-rock hooks, giving the band a heavier, more aggressive edge than the pop-leaning tags sometimes attached to it.
Over the years Hellyeah built a catalog marked by songs like «Moth», «Hush», «Welcome Home», and «333», earning a dedicated following on rock radio and within the American metal scene. The band's history has been shaped by the deep personal and musical bonds among members forged in earlier, well-known metal acts, giving Hellyeah a pedigree distinct from typical side projects.
