Gustavo Cerati

Gustavo Cerati (1959–2014) was an Argentine singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer regarded as one of the most influential figures in Latin American and Spanish-language rock. He first rose to prominence as the frontman, guitarist and principal songwriter of Soda Stereo, the Buenos Aires band that became one of the defining acts of Rock en Español across the 1980s and 1990s, achieving massive popularity throughout Latin America and Spain.

After Soda Stereo's breakup, Cerati built an acclaimed solo career marked by constant sonic reinvention, moving fluidly between rock, electronic textures, and pop songcraft. Albums such as «Bocanada» and songs like «Puente», «Crimen», and «Adiós» showcased his introspective songwriting and his appetite for studio experimentation, cementing his reputation as an innovator rather than a nostalgia act trading on his earlier band's fame.

Cerati's work is characterized by lush, layered guitar textures, atmospheric electronic production, and lyrics that blend the personal and the poetic. He collaborated widely across the Latin rock and pop world and remained a touchstone figure until his death in 2014, following a stroke suffered on stage in 2010. His catalogue, both with Soda Stereo and as a soloist, continues to shape how Spanish-language rock is written and produced.
