Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear is an American alternative pop and indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002 as the solo bedroom-recording project of Boston-raised singer-songwriter Ed Droste. After the intimate, lo-fi debut Horn of Plenty, Droste was joined by drummer and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Bear, bassist and producer Chris Taylor, and singer-guitarist Daniel Rossen, forming the full lineup that would define the band's sound for the rest of its run.

The group became known for lush, meticulously arranged songs built on intricate vocal harmonies, unusual instrumentation and a folk-tinged, chamber-pop sensibility that set them apart within the 2000s Brooklyn indie scene. Albums such as Yellow House and Veckatimest, home to tracks like «Two Weeks» and «Ready, Able», earned widespread critical acclaim for their density and craft, while later releases such as Shields and Painted Ruins continued to explore more expansive, sometimes darker textures without abandoning the band's harmonic complexity.

Grizzly Bear's music draws equally on folk, baroque pop and experimental electronic touches, with each member contributing distinct songwriting voices — Droste's and Rossen's contrasting vocal styles in particular became a hallmark of the band's records. The group has also been noted for high-profile admirers and collaborators within the indie world, cementing their reputation as one of the more musically adventurous acts to emerge from the Brooklyn scene of the mid-2000s.
