Gin Blossoms

Gin Blossoms are an American rock band formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona, part of the same jangly, guitar-driven college-rock scene that produced acts like the Refreshments. They broke through nationally in 1992 with their major-label debut New Miserable Experience, propelled by the single «Hey Jealousy», which became a radio staple and pushed the album to quadruple platinum status alongside further hits like «Found Out About You» and «Allison Road».

The band's sound blends bright, chiming guitar hooks with melancholic, often autobiographical lyrics, giving them a bittersweet quality that fit neatly between the alternative rock boom and mainstream pop radio of the early-to-mid 1990s. Their 1996 follow-up, Congratulations I'm Sorry, kept the momentum going with the Grammy-nominated «As Long as It Matters» and went platinum in its own right.

Gin Blossoms split in 1997 but reunited in 2001, continuing to release new material including Major Lodge Victory (2006), No Chocolate Cake (2010) and Mixed Reality (2018), maintaining a steady live and recording career decades after their commercial peak. Original guitarist and songwriter Doug Hopkins, who wrote «Hey Jealousy» before his death in 1993, remains a defining presence in the band's story and catalog.
