Ghost

Ghost is a Swedish rock band, formed in Linköping, known for fusing classic heavy metal and hard rock with theatrical, occult-themed showmanship. Their sound draws heavily on the eerie, riff-driven atmosphere of bands like Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult, layered with catchy, almost pop-inflected melodies that made them accessible far beyond traditional metal audiences.

The band built its identity around anonymity and ritual theater: masked instrumentalists known as Nameless Ghouls backed a rotating, papal-styled frontman character, Papa Emeritus, whose persona has changed across eras. Although official credits long obscured the songwriting, it is widely known that Tobias Forge is the band’s creative force. Songs like «Square Hammer», «Cirice», and «Dance Macabre» showcase the band’s knack for pairing dark, satanic-adjacent imagery with arena-ready hooks.

Ghost won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance and has continued evolving its sound and visual concept across releases such as Meliora and Prequelle, moving between heavier and more overtly pop-rock territory while retaining its signature blend of horror aesthetics and melodic songwriting.
