Get Scared

Get Scared were an American post-hardcore and alternative rock band formed in Lansing, Michigan, in 2008. Built around vocalist Nicholas Matthews, guitarists John Braddock and Bradley Iverson, and drummer Warren Wilcock, the band emerged from the mid-to-late 2000s scene wave, alongside acts like Black Veil Brides, that blended screamo aggression with pop-leaning hooks and heavy use of synths and electronic textures.

After early EPs, the band signed to Universal Motown for its 2011 debut full-length, Best Kind Of Mess, which produced fan favorites such as «Sarcasm» and «Whore» and established their signature contrast between screamed verses and melodic, hook-driven choruses. A turbulent lineup history followed, including Matthews' temporary departure and replacement by Joel Faviere, before Matthews returned to the fold in late 2012.

With Matthews back as frontman, Get Scared signed to Fearless Records, releasing further material that leaned further into electronic and pop-punk influences while retaining their harsher post-hardcore roots. The band's sound and repeated lineup upheavals made them a distinctive, if chaotic, presence in the 2010s Warped Tour-era alternative scene before eventually going on hiatus.
