Funkadelic

Funkadelic is an American funk band formed in 1968 in New Jersey by George Clinton as a companion outfit to his vocal group Parliament, fusing psychedelic rock guitar work with deep funk grooves and gospel-rooted vocal harmonies. Built around Clinton, guitarist Eddie Hazel, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and a rotating cast of musicians, the band drew on Jimi Hendrix and Sly and the Family Stone while pushing further into freaky, distortion-heavy territory, becoming a cornerstone of the wider Parliament-Funkadelic collective.

Early albums such as «Funkadelic», «Free Your Mind… and Your Ass Will Follow» and «Maggot Brain» established a reputation for extended guitar jams and countercultural lyrics, with the title track «Maggot Brain» remaining one of the most celebrated guitar solos in rock history. Later in the 1970s Funkadelic shifted toward tighter, dancefloor-oriented funk, culminating in «One Nation Under a Groove», widely regarded as one of the essential funk albums of the era.

Funkadelic's catalogue became a foundational sample source for hip-hop and G-funk producers in the 1990s, and George Clinton's ongoing influence kept the band's legacy alive across generations of funk, rock and rap artists.
