About the artist
Frankie Cosmos is the stage name of Greta Kline, an American singer-songwriter from New York City. Daughter of actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates, she began releasing prolific lo-fi bedroom-pop recordings on Bandcamp as a teenager before assembling a full band and signing to Double Double Whammy and later Sub Pop. Her songwriting draws on the anti-folk tradition of the early-2000s New York scene and the DIY ethos of K Records, filtered through a diaristic, plainspoken lyricism influenced by Frank O'Hara's poetry.
Kline's music is marked by short, unpolished songs built from simple guitar figures, close vocal harmonies, and disarmingly direct observations about everyday emotional life. Albums like Zentropy, Next Thing, Vessel, and Close It Quietly established her as a central figure in the 2010s indie-pop revival, prized for turning fragments of daily experience into miniature, melodically sharp songs.
Before and alongside her solo career, Kline played bass in the band Porches, and her Frankie Cosmos project has featured a rotating cast of collaborators including Aaron Maine, David Maine, and Lauren Martin. Her prolific output and unguarded songwriting have made her an influential presence in contemporary indie and bedroom pop.
