Ezra Furman

Ezra Furman is an American singer-songwriter born in Chicago in September 1986, whose work moves between raw, punk-inflected rock and roll and tender, confessional songwriting. Furman first gained attention fronting Ezra Furman and the Harpoons in the late 2000s, then continued as a solo artist backed by the Boy-Friends, building a catalogue defined by restless energy, doo-wop and Springsteen-indebted structures, and unflinchingly personal lyrics about identity, mental health and faith.

Albums like «Day of the Dog», «Perpetual Motion People» and «Transangelic Exodus» established Furman as a distinctive voice in indie rock, praised for combining classic rock and roll songcraft with an openly queer, transgender and Jewish perspective rarely centered so directly in the genre. Songs such as «Restless Year» and «Body Was Made» pair anthemic choruses with vulnerable, direct lyrics. Furman reached a much wider audience after composing the soundtrack for the Netflix series Sex Education, which introduced her music to viewers well beyond the indie-rock circuit while staying true to the raw, emotionally direct style of her albums.
