About the artist
Everclear is an American alternative rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, led by singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter Art Alexakis. The band emerged in the mid-1990s alternative rock boom with a sound built on melodic hooks, crunchy guitars, and confessional, often autobiographical lyrics addressing addiction, poverty, and broken families — themes drawn heavily from Alexakis's own difficult upbringing.
The band's commercial peak came with the albums «Sparkle and Fade» and «So Much for the Afterglow», which produced enduring alternative-rock radio staples such as «Santa Monica» and «Father of Mine», songs that balanced anthemic choruses with raw emotional honesty. Their next record continued this run of success, further cementing their place among the defining bands of the era's post-grunge, radio-friendly alternative rock movement.
Through numerous lineup changes over the following decades, Alexakis remained the band's constant creative force, steering Everclear through shifts in the music industry while continuing to tour extensively, including package tours revisiting 1990s alternative rock nostalgia. The band's catalog remains closely tied to the sound and mood of American alternative radio in that decade.
