About the artist
Electric Six is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in the mid-1990s under the name The Wildbunch before adopting their current name. Fronted by vocalist Dick Valentine (Tyler Spencer), the band built a reputation for a campy, high-energy fusion of dance-punk, disco, and hard rock, delivered with deadpan, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and stage antics.
The group broke through internationally in 2003 with the double release of «Danger! High Voltage» and «Gay Bar», both from their debut album Fire. «Danger! High Voltage» featured a guest vocal credited to «Jack White» (from a version recorded before White Stripes fame made a full credit complicated), and both singles became UK chart hits and dancefloor staples, cementing the band's reputation for irreverent, hook-laden anthems.
Since then, Electric Six has been remarkably prolific, releasing albums at a steady pace through independent labels including Metropolis Records, with only Valentine remaining as a constant amid frequent lineup changes. Tracks like «I Buy the Drugs», «Synthesizer», and «Naked Pictures (Of Your Mother)» show the band's mix of satire, absurdist humor, and genuine dance-rock craftsmanship, and they've maintained a dedicated cult following through relentless touring and output rather than mainstream radio presence.
