Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are an American indie folk collective formed in Los Angeles in 2007, built around singer Alex Ebert (also known for his work with Ima Robot) and vocalist Jade Castrinos. The band grew into a sprawling, communal-feeling ensemble of up to ten members, blending folk, gospel-tinged harmonies, and loose, festival-ready jams into a sound that felt both ramshackle and euphoric.

Their 2009 debut album, Up From Below, introduced their signature communal aeshtetic and produced the breakout single «Home», a call-and-response duet between Ebert and Castrinos that became a staple of American radio and film soundtracks. Tracks like «40 Day Dream» and «Janglin» cemented the record as a touchstone of the late-2000s folk revival alongside acts such as Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes.

The group's second album, Here, released in 2012, leaned further into gospel and psychedelic textures with songs like «Man on Fire» and «That's What's Up», debuting at number one on the independent chart and reaching the top five of the Billboard 200. Known for their joyous, participatory live shows at festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros remain a defining act of the era's neo-hippie folk resurgence.
