Eddie Money

Eddie Money, born Edward Joseph Mahoney in Brooklyn, New York, was an American rock and pop singer who became one of the defining voices of late-1970s and 1980s radio rock. Before turning to music he trained as a police officer, following his father into the NYPD, but left that path to pursue a recording career in California, where he was signed to Columbia Records and released his self-titled debut in 1977.

Money built his career on hook-driven, blue-collar rock with strong R&B and pop inflections, delivered in a raspy, instantly recognizable voice. Songs like «Baby Hold On», «Two Tickets to Paradise», and «Think I'm in Love» established him as a hit-maker in the late 1970s, while «Take Me Home Tonight», his 1986 duet with Ronnie Spector that interpolated her Ronettes classic «Be My Baby», became one of the biggest hits of his career and a staple of MTV-era rock radio.

Money continued recording and touring for decades, later becoming known to a new generation through television appearances. He died on September 13, 2019, at age 70, following complications from esophageal cancer, leaving behind a catalog of anthemic rock songs that remain radio staples.
