Echo & the Bunnymen

Echo & the Bunnymen are an English post-punk band from Liverpool, formed in 1978 by singer/guitarist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant, and bassist Les Pattinson, later joined by drummer Pete de Freitas. They emerged alongside the wider Liverpool post-punk scene, distinguished by McCulloch's brooding, atmospheric vocals and Sergeant's shimmering, effects-laden guitar work.

The band's sound blends the moodiness of post-punk with psychedelic and gothic textures, producing widely acclaimed songs such as «The Killing Moon», «The Cutter», and «Bring on the Dancing Horses». Their albums from the early-to-mid 1980s are considered high points of the era's British alternative rock, admired for their cinematic scope and lyrical intensity.

After McCulloch's departure and de Freitas's death in a motorcycle accident, the band went through a hiatus before reforming in 1997. McCulloch and Sergeant have continued to tour and record as Echo & the Bunnymen, and the group remains a touchstone influence on later generations of alternative and indie rock musicians.
