Duster

Duster is an American space rock band formed in San Jose, California, built around multi-instrumentalists Clay Parton, Canaan Dove Amber, and Jason Albertini. Emerging in the late 1990s, the trio became a touchstone of the lo-fi and slowcore underground, crafting hazy, fuzzed-out guitar textures layered over unhurried, almost sleepy rhythms. Their sound favored atmosphere and restraint over polish, with murmured vocals often buried in tape hiss and reverb.

The band released two full-length albums during their original run, Stratosphere and Contemporary Movement, alongside a scattering of shorter releases, before quietly dissolving around 2001. Songs like «Inside Out», «Me and the Birds», and «Stars Will Fall» exemplify their drifting, melancholic style, which found new audiences years later as slowcore and lo-fi rock experienced a broader critical reappraisal.

Duster kept a low profile for over a decade and a half, with fans and critics gradually rediscovering Stratosphere as a genre landmark. A brief 2018 social media post hinting at new recording activity stirred anticipation among longtime listeners, cementing the group's status as an influential, if reclusive, presence in the space rock and slowcore scenes.
