Drive Like I Do

Drive Like I Do was an early name used by the band now known worldwide as The 1975, formed by Matthew Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel as teenagers in Manchester, England around 2002. Before settling on their eventual identity, the group cycled through several monikers, including Talkhouse and Big Sleep, and Drive Like I Do reflects a period when the band was still finding its sound, leaning closer to pop punk and post-hardcore influences than the polished, genre-blending pop-rock they would later become known for.

During this era the band drew heavily on acts like Fall Out Boy and Coheed and Cambria, playing covers and writing songs with a rawer, more youthful energy. Tracks from this period, such as «Lost Boys», have become cult favorites among devoted fans who trace the band's evolution back to these formative recordings, many of which circulated informally online and through fan communities rather than official releases.

After The 1975 released Music for Cars in 2013, the members expressed interest in revisiting the Drive Like I Do name as a possible side project, hinting at a return to their earlier, rougher sound outside the more polished framework of their main act. The name remains most significant as a historical artifact of the band's formative years rather than an active ongoing project.
