Dr. Hook

Dr. Hook (also known as Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show) is an American rock band formed in the late 1960s in Union City, New Jersey, built around vocalists Ray Sawyer and Dennis Locorriere. The band emerged from the country-rock and pop-rock scene of the era, blending humor, storytelling, and radio-friendly hooks with a loose, good-time band feel.

The group first gained wide attention through their association with cartoonist and songwriter Shel Silverstein, who wrote or co-wrote many of their early hits, giving the band's catalog a distinctive wit and narrative style. Their breakthrough songs, including «Sylvia's Mother» and «The Cover of the “Rolling Stone”», established them as a act equally comfortable with tender ballads and satirical, self-aware pop.

In the mid-to-late 1970s Dr. Hook shifted toward a smoother soft-rock and adult-contemporary sound, scoring major hits such as «Sharing the Night Together» and «When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman». The band's mix of country roots, pop craftsmanship, and playful lyricism made them consistent hitmakers across nearly two decades.
