DOPE LEMON

Dope Lemon is the solo project of Australian singer-songwriter Angus Stone, best known internationally as one half of the sibling folk duo Angus & Julia Stone. Where his work with his sister leans toward intimate acoustic folk, Dope Lemon is looser and more psychedelic — a hazy, sun-warped blend of surf rock, dub, lo-fi pop and stoner grooves that grew partly out of jam sessions with friends at his farm studio in New South Wales.

The project's debut, Honey Bones, released in 2016, set the template: reverb-soaked guitars, laid-back rhythms and Stone's smoky, half-mumbled vocals, with the title track and songs like «Marinade» capturing its languid, beach-bonfire atmosphere. Subsequent albums such as Smooth Big Cat and Rose Pink Cadillac expanded on that sound while keeping the same unhurried, analog warmth, drawing comparisons to Mac DeMarco and Tame Impala for their nostalgic, slightly warped psych-pop textures.

Dope Lemon has become known for a distinct visual and sonic identity built around retro, tropical imagery and a consistently mellow tone, giving Stone a creative outlet separate from Angus & Julia Stone's more stripped-down songwriting. Tracks like «Uptown Folks» and «Hey You» have found audiences well beyond Australia, cementing Dope Lemon as a recognizable name in laid-back indie and psych-adjacent rock.
