Donald Fagen

Donald Fagen is an American singer, keyboardist, and songwriter from Passaic, New Jersey, best known as one half of the jazz-rock duo Steely Dan, alongside Walter Becker. Together they built a body of work defined by meticulous studio craft, jazz-inflected harmony, sardonic lyricism, and a devotion to technical precision that made their records touchstones of sophisticated 1970s pop-rock.

During the band's early-1980s hiatus, Fagen released his solo debut The Nightfly in 1982, an album steeped in nostalgic, late-night jazz-pop atmosphere and widely regarded as one of the finest-produced records of its era, featuring songs like «I.G.Y.» and «New Frontier». He followed with Kamakiriad in 1993, produced by Walter Becker, continuing the same meticulous studio approach applied to more futuristic, narrative-driven songwriting.

After Steely Dan resumed activity, Fagen continued to balance band work with solo output, releasing Morph the Cat in 2006 and Sunken Condos in 2012, both extending his signature blend of jazz sophistication, dry wit, and immaculate arrangement. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 as a member of Steely Dan and remains active touring with the group.
