About the artist
Dissection are a Swedish band widely regarded as one of the defining and most influential acts in melodic black/death metal. Their early albums, «The Somberlain» and «Storm of the Light's Bane», fused death metal's aggression with melodic, almost neoclassical guitar harmonies, helping establish a template that shaped an entire generation of Scandinavian extreme metal bands. The songwriting, centered on the guitar work and vocals of Jon Nödtveidt, combined technical precision with an unusually strong sense of melody for the genre at the time.
The band's history was marked by a long hiatus following Nödtveidt's imprisonment in connection with a notorious criminal case in Sweden in the late 1990s. Upon his release in 2004, he reformed Dissection with a new lineup and returned with «Reinkaos» in 2006, an album that departed from the earlier melodic death metal sound in favor of slower tempos and lyrics rooted explicitly in the esoteric, Satanic philosophy the band had come to publicly embrace.
Dissection's catalogue, including tracks like «Where Dead Angels Lie», «Night's Blood», and «Black Dragon», remains a touchstone for melodic black metal, cited by countless later bands for its combination of atmosphere, technical songwriting, and uncompromising thematic intensity. The band's story and its abrupt end following Nödtveidt's death cemented its status as one of extreme metal's most legendary and controversial acts.
