Dirty Projectors

Dirty Projectors is the project of American singer, guitarist, and composer David Longstreth, founded in the early 2000s and based in Brooklyn, New York. Longstreth, who studied at Yale, built the group around highly intricate vocal arrangements, unconventional song structures, and a restless mixing of art-rock, R&B, and avant-garde compositional ideas that set it apart from typical indie rock.

The band's sound is defined by intertwined, contrapuntal vocal harmonies — voices weaving in and out of unison in ways rarely heard in guitar-based indie music — layered over angular guitar work and shifting rhythms. Over the years the lineup has included prominent vocalists such as Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Olga Bell, whose interplay with Longstreth's voice became central to the group's identity, especially on the acclaimed album «Bitte Orca» and its follow-up «Swing Lo Magellan».

Dirty Projectors has continued to evolve through lineup changes, with Longstreth remaining the group's core creative force on later releases, continually reworking the project's sound while retaining its signature vocal complexity and genre-blurring ambition. The band is widely regarded as one of the more distinctive and technically adventurous acts to emerge from the 2000s Brooklyn indie scene.
