About the artist
Destroyer is the primary project of Canadian songwriter Dan Bejar, a distinctive figure in indie rock also known for his contributions to The New Pornographers and as a member of the trio Swan Lake. Since the mid-1990s he has used Destroyer as a shifting vehicle for a restless artistic vision, with each album adopting a different sonic identity rather than settling into a signature sound.
That range spans the raw, MIDI-heavy experimentation of «Your Blues» to the smooth, saxophone-laced lounge-pop of «Kaputt», widely considered his commercial and critical breakthrough. Across these shifts, constants remain: Bejar's instantly recognizable, world-weary drawl, and lyrics dense with literary allusion, wordplay and oblique storytelling that reward close, repeated listening.
Songs like «Tinseltown Swimming in Blood», «Bay of Pigs» and «Chinatown» illustrate his ability to fuse intricate, often lush arrangements with a poet's attention to language. Decades into his career, Destroyer remains one of indie rock's most consistently unpredictable and literate acts.
