Defeater

Defeater is an American melodic hardcore band from Boston, Massachusetts, formed in the mid-2000s. The band is known for a concept-driven discography: nearly every album follows the same fictional working-class family in post-World War II New Jersey, with each record narrating episodes from the lives of the father and his sons across different eras. This narrative approach set Defeater apart in the hardcore scene, where storytelling of this depth and continuity across releases was unusual.

Musically, the band blends the aggression of hardcore punk with melodic, often somber guitar work and dynamic shifts between screamed and cleanly sung vocals, drawing comparisons to bands like Have Heart and Comeback Kid while carving out a more atmospheric, cinematic sound.
