Deafheaven

Deafheaven are an American band formed in San Francisco in 2010, celebrated for pioneering a hybrid of black metal and shoegaze that helped define the «blackgaze» subgenre. The project began as a duo of vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy before expanding into a full band, blending shrieking blast-beat intensity with the lush, reverb-drenched melodicism of shoegaze and post-rock. This unusual fusion earned them both fervent devotion and fierce debate within metal's more traditionalist corners.

Their breakthrough came with 2013's Sunbather, an album whose stark pink cover and emotionally raw compositions — including the sprawling «Dream House» and the spoken-word-driven «The Pecan Tree» — drew widespread critical acclaim far beyond metal press, appearing on year-end best-of lists across genres.
