ДДТ (DDT)

DDT (DDT) is one of the most important rock bands in Russian and Soviet history, formed in Ufa in 1980. The band survived Soviet-era censorship, underground status, and repeated lineup changes to become one of the defining voices of Russian rock alongside acts like Kino and Akvarium. Its leader, principal songwriter, and only constant member is Yuri Shevchuk, whose gravelly voice and poetic, often socially charged lyrics became the group's signature.

Musically DDT blends hard-edged rock with folk and country-tinged melodicism, anthemic choruses, and lyrics that move between romantic longing, spiritual searching, and pointed commentary on Russian life and politics. Songs like «Что такое осень», «Родина», and «Метель» became part of the national songbook, sung at concerts by entire stadiums.

Across roughly two decades of Soviet and post-Soviet upheaval, DDT built a catalog of studio and live albums that cemented its reputation for artistic integrity. Shevchuk has also been an outspoken public figure, and the band's willingness to address difficult social themes has kept it culturally relevant well beyond typical rock band longevity.
