Daughtry

Daughtry is an American rock band formed in 2006 in Nashville, Tennessee, fronted by singer-songwriter Chris Daughtry, who rose to fame as a finalist on the fifth season of American Idol. Rather than pursuing a solo path after the show, he assembled a full band, giving the project a harder-edged, guitar-driven sound than many of his Idol peers.

The band's self-titled debut album, released in late 2006, became a massive commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 and producing hit singles such as «It's Not Over» and «Home», both of which reached the top five of the Hot 100. Its blend of post-grunge riffs, arena-rock choruses and Chris Daughtry's raspy, emotive vocals set the template the band would follow for years.

Subsequent albums, including «Leave This Town» and «Break the Spell», continued to chart highly and yielded further hits like «No Surprise» and «Waiting for Superman». Daughtry occupies a distinctive niche in 2000s rock radio, bridging mainstream hard rock with pop-friendly songwriting, and remains one of the most commercially successful acts to emerge from a television talent competition.
