Daughters

Daughters are an American experimental/noise rock band formed in Providence, Rhode Island in 2002. Across their career they have never settled into a single sound, moving from the chaotic thrash and grindcore of their debut Canada Songs, through the technical, mathcore-inflected assault of Hell Songs, to the abrasive noise rock of their self-titled album. That restlessness has made them one of the more unpredictable and influential acts to emerge from the 2000s underground heavy music scene.

After internal tensions led to a lengthy hiatus, Daughters reconvened and returned in 2018 with You Won't Get What You Want, an album that reintroduced the band with a darker, more atmospheric noise rock and industrial sound, trading some of their earlier chaotic aggression for a colder, more deliberate menace. Tracks such as «City Song» and «Satan in the Wait» exemplified this evolution, pairing tense, repetitive rhythms with unsettling vocal delivery, and the record was widely praised as a career-redefining comeback.

Throughout their history, Daughters have built a reputation as a band whose sound resists easy categorization, drawing on grindcore, noise, industrial, and post-punk textures while maintaining an intensely confrontational live and recorded presence. Songs like «Long Road, No Turns» and «Ocean Song» reflect the band's ability to shift between visceral aggression and eerie, mood-driven atmosphere, cementing their place as one of the more distinctive voices in modern heavy music.
