Daughter

Daughter is a British indie folk band formed in London in 2010, built around the songwriting of singer and guitarist Elena Tonra. She was soon joined by Swiss guitarist Igor Haefeli and French drummer Remi Aguilella, and the trio quickly developed a hushed, atmospheric sound defined by Tonra's confessional lyrics, Haefeli's shimmering, effects-laden guitar work, and Aguilella's restrained, textural drumming.

After two early EPs, His Young Heart and The Wild Youth, the band released its debut album If You Leave in 2013, which established their reputation for melancholic, emotionally raw songwriting with tracks like «Youth» and «Smother». They followed it with Not to Disappear in 2016 and the soundtrack Music from Before the Storm in 2017, composed for the video game Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, which broadened their profile beyond traditional album releases.

Daughter's music sits at the intersection of indie folk, dream pop, and ambient electronic textures, often building from sparse acoustic beginnings into swelling, atmospheric climaxes. After a period of hiatus and solo projects, the band returned with their fourth studio album, Stereo Mind Game, in 2023, continuing their exploration of intimacy and vulnerability within a widescreen sonic palette.
